The Magic Mirror is based upon a mixture of short stories found in Pu Songling’s Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio of which I have then placed in our contemporary world. The title itself refers to one of Songling’s tales and is also serves as a metaphor to our endless gaze into handheld digital screens. The story focuses on a young man whom, not being able to cope with his reality, retreats to the digital world and embarks on a journey of self-discovery, finding friendship and love along the way. The Magic Mirror story examines the concept of love, physical isolation and loneliness in a hyper-connected digital world.
