Transfigured Grido

Transfigured Grido is a mashup of tape-stretching and manipulating Arnold Schoenberg’s string sextet Verklärte Nacht and Helmut Lachenmann’s seminal string quartet Grido, two pieces that have both had a profound impact on my creativity and composition. The intense haunting feeling that I had when hearing these pieces encapsulated the world that I wanted to create in my own music. And this approach of production techniques and composition has still had a reverberating impact on my composition.

The recordings I chose were both performances by the Arditti Quartet, I can’t for the life of me remember which exact ones they were now but I had done this intentionally in order to create a feeling of a large studio performance by the same group of musicians. The only techniques I employed were cutting and time-stretching.
